According to some sources over 85% of the adult people in the United States has the dream of writing a book. Yet, the majority of these men and women will never achieve their dream for one easy reason; they are waiting to be "inspired".
I need to be inspired. I'm just not feeling it. I'm waiting for a sign.
Anthology
These are all things I have heard from countless men and women who say they want to write a book but haven't gotten past the first few pages of writing. Some have not even written the first word. Ouch!
There are likely some authors who successfully write based on pure inspiration, but in my world inspiration may not always be the prominent emotion. However, once I start writing I tend to get very inspired.
In the past decade I have written four paperback books, I have been a contributing author in some anthologies and I have written hundreds of articles and blog postings. The majority of my writing accomplishments would not have gotten done had I waited to be inspired each and every time I needed to unblemished something.
I suppose I didn't want to wonder where my writing could take me. I wanted to know. So I did what I had to do. I wrote and I continue to write. It's that simple.
If you're in the 85% of those who will leave this lifetime with their book inside of them here are a few things that can likely help to turn that around.
1. Make a commitment to your goal
2. Set a definite time every day to do at least fifteen minutes of writing.
3. Even if you can't think of whatever to write during the dedicated time write the following, "Right now I can't think of whatever to write. Right now I can't think of whatever to write. Right now....." Before long you will find yourself writing more than this one sentence over and over.
4. If you don't already have one, start a blog. Add something to your blog at least three times a week.
5. Think about how you will feel if you don't fulfill your dream.
6. fantasize how great you will feel when you unblemished your first book.
The fact is your book can only get done by you production a commitment to the end result. Start today to move toward the outcome you dream of. You will be glad you did.
